The concluding prints of the Disasters of War also include satirical images. In this one, Goya criticizes the role of the clergy following the reinstatement of the Inquisition by the reactionary King Ferdinand VII. The cartoonish image and the caption give expression to Goya’s hope that this resurgence of the Catholic Church and its deception of the people will be short-lived.
