Schwingbock zur Verarbeitung von Flachs, 19./ 20. Jahrhundert
Höhe 81 cm
Bodenbreite 54 cm
Bodentiefe 20 cm

Stengelteile, die nach dem Räpeln in den Flachsfasern hängenbleiben, werden herausgeschlagen. Das Faserbündel wird über den Schwingbock gelegt und die Schwindel wird dicht an der Kante vorbei geschwungen.
Dabei entsteht viel Staub, der sich leicht entzünden kann. Man darf den Schwingstall also nicht mit einer Kerze oder anderem offenem Feuer betreten.
Die herausgefallenen Stengelteile heißen "Schäden". Was unbrauchbar und wertlos ist, das ist also "schäbig".
