Der Panasonic FW-U1S53 ist mehr als nur eine Schreibmaschine, er ist ein ausgewachsener Word Processor. Mit Hilfe eines ca. 20 X15 cm großen LC-Display kann der gesamte Text erst mal geschrieben , korrigiert und gespeichert werden, bevor auf Befehl ein 48 Punkt Matrixdrucker den Text auf Papier ausdruckt. Ein Lithium-Cadmium Akku sorgt für ein paar Stunden Energie bevor er über ein externes Netzteil wieder aufgeladen werden kann. Zu dem Word Processor gehört eine Kunstledertasche mit Druckerkassetten und Netzteil. Die QUERTY Tastatur ermöglicht durch Doppel- und Dreifachbelegung die Erstellung von japanischen Schriftzeichen und weist das Gerät damit eindeutig als ehemalige Schreibmaschine eines Japaners in Deutschland aus.
