Brustbild eines älteren Mannes in pelzbesetztem Mantel und Hauskappe: Er sitzt am mit einem Tischtuch bedeckten Tisch, auf dem ein Geldsäckchen und einige Münzen liegen, und überrechnet an seinen Fingern seinen Wohlstand. Dabei kommt er – so liegt es im Zusammenhang mit dem Pendant „Die ruhende Sorge“ [Inv. 1956-1171] nahe – zu dem Schluss, dass er davon wohltätig an eine Ärmere spenden kann. Unten links: „Gezeichnet von Schenau.“ Rechts: „Gestochen von C. G.
