Description

Completely preserved hollow clay cylinder with inscription in three columns. The cuneiform text in Akkadian (Babylonian) is a dedicatory inscription referring to the building and related cultic activities of King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon (r. 604-562 BC). Among other things, he boasts of having renewed cities and sanctuaries and provided them with cult images, and of having completed Babylon.
The text has been handed down in several copies on clay cylinders like ours. It is said to have come from the Lugal Marad temple in Marad near Nippur. (AVS)
