The fishhook composed of two components consists of a fish-shaped sinker made of shell and a much smaller hook made of tortoise shell, somewhat angularly bent and sharply shaped. The hook was tied to the sinker with a plant fiber line. Later, for line fishing, European lines with a hook made of iron were used in conjunction with lead sinkers. Traditionally, fishing lines were mostly made of hibiscus fibers. This fishing hook comes from the remote island of Hatohobei, located away from the main islands of Palau, which had very experienced experts in fishing.
