Das Objekt stammt aus dem Südosten Indiens, dem heutigen Bundesstaat Tamil Nadu. Dort arbeiteten seit 1706 von August Hermann Francke entsandte Missionare, die Objekte für die Kunst- und Naturalienkammer nach Halle sandten.
